Veronika's difficult journey. 5

Veronika's parents found out about their daughter's serious illness when she was 7 months pregnant. Doctors diagnosed congenital malformations of the central nervous system and spine. After the birth at 38 weeks, the girl was immediately transported to the intensive care unit of the Kyiv OKHMATDYT. There, she was confirmed with a preliminary diagnosis of multiple pathologies of the central nervous system and spine, and was diagnosed with hydrocephalus and Chiari malformation of the second degree. 

There was no time to think: the very next day, the baby underwent her first pinal cord surgery, eliminating the pathological fixation. In a few days, the doctors corrected the hydrocephalus. When Veronika was 7 months old, the girl underwent brain surgery, and in early 2020, a shunt was installed to drain excess fluid. 

Now Veronika is 5 years old, and despite all the difficulties, she continues to fight. In addition to CNS and spinal defects, the girl has symptomatic epilepsy, lower paraparesis, severe hydrocephalus, foot deformity and partial optic atrophy. But even with this burden of illness, this little girl does not give up. Her struggle is a path of small but confident steps towards improvement. 

Rehabilitation has become a real salvation for Veronika: it helps to improve her physical and emotional state. The girl has improved her understanding of spoken language, chewing reflexes, breathing, fine motor skills and tactile perception. Veronika learned to hold the pyramid rings in her palms and developed an inflammatory reflex.

Unfortunately, due to the war and the fact that the girl is often ill, Veronika rarely visits rehabilitation centers, which leads to a deterioration in her condition. Now the girl really needs a new course of rehabilitation, so we urge you to support her and help with her treatment.
