In 2014, six-year-old Aryna saw from the window as missiles destroyed the Donetsk airport. Along with the concrete, the familiar world crumbled before her eyes. In 2014, the family was forced to leave their native Donetsk and move to Pavlohrad.
Working with a psychologist after the relocation supported Aryna. But with the beginning of the full-scale invasion, panic attacks returned. Sirens and explosions caused attacks of suffocation and loss of consciousness. In April 2024, her temperature suddenly rose, abdominal pain appeared, and soon bleeding began.
Doctors diagnosed Crohn’s disease and total ulcerative colitis – autoimmune diseases in which the immune system destroys intestines. Due to complications, part of Aryna’s intestine was removed.
During the first 9 months of the illness, bleeding occurred 12 times. Kateryna took her daughter by intensive care ambulance to Kyiv to the All-Ukrainian Center for Motherhood and Childhood. There, Aryna was prescribed modern biological therapy with Humira, which stops the immune system’s attacks on the cells of intestines. The treatment is long-term - at least one to two years.
Arina is currently undergoing scheduled inpatient treatment at this center. Here, she met the doctors who will be treating her going forward, since she has now turned eighteen.
The illness led to protein-energy deficiency: Aryna lost 15 kg, and joint pain appeared. To support her body, she needs special enteral nutrition - Nutrini and Fortini. These formulas replenish protein, vitamin, and energy deficiencies, helping her remain in remission.
It is now extremely important not to interrupt the therapy. Each month of treatment is a fight for stability and the opportunity to live without pain. An interruption may again lead to bleeding and hospitalization.
Aryna is a creative and bright girl: she plays the guitar, draws, knits, and dreams of becoming a clothing designer or an English translator.
Kateryna is raising her daughter alone; Aryna’s father died in an accident in 2013. She is not able to cover all her daughter’s needs on her own.
A significant amount of money is needed to provide Arina with medication and special dietary supplements for 6 months. Let us help the girl together. Your support is an opportunity for her to live without pain and plan her future!
