Gavrylo was born a healthy and strong child and developed well. However, he frequently fell ill with respiratory infections and found it very hard to be away from his mother – his parents never managed to enroll him in kindergarten.
After the full-scale invasion began, the family's life changed completely. The city began to empty out, most establishments closed, and people left en masse. The family stayed behind because they had nowhere to go. The children were under constant stress due to shelling, danger, and being confined to their home or basement.
During that time, the condition of the younger son, Gavrylo, deteriorated sharply: he was losing weight rapidly, becoming irritable, and feeling thirsty constantly. His parents called an ambulance. His blood glucose reading was several times above normal. This was followed by an emergency hospitalization to Dnipro, where the child was admitted to intensive care and diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.
At the hospital, the parents were told about continuous glucose monitoring sensors, which significantly improve blood sugar control and reduce the number of painful finger pricks (up to 7-8 times a day without a sensor). Unfortunately, the sensors are very expensive, yet absolutely essential for the child. The family rents housing in a new city. Only the father works, as the mother is constantly by her child's side. They do not have the financial means to provide Gavrylo with everything he needs for safe and stable diabetes management.
Any help, even the smallest contribution, will be a tremendous support and a chance to give this child a stable and safe life with diabetes!
