Bohdan is an active boy who loves cycling, playing football, and swimming. He genuinely strives to be among other children, to socialize, and to spend time with his peers. He is sociable and cheerful, but despite this he is forced to study individually and stay at home under his mother's constant supervision. Without monitoring, due to his illness, Bohdan can lose consciousness or fall into a coma at any moment. Diabetes does not allow him to live like all other children.
Six years ago, the boy did not wake up in the morning. His mother immediately turned to the hospital. The doctors began providing assistance and called the emergency resuscitation team. Bogdanchyk was urgently taken to intensive care, but no one explained his condition to his mother. It felt as though the ground was falling away beneath her feet from the uncertainty and fear. When Bohdan was transferred to a ward, the diagnosis was announced – type 1 diabetes.
From that moment on, his mother learned to calculate insulin doses, count bread units, measure blood sugar levels, and administer injections. This was very difficult for an adult – and even harder for a child.
It is painful to accept that this disease cannot be cured. Yet today there is the opportunity to significantly ease the life of a child with this diagnosis. That is why the family is reaching out for help in purchasing continuous glucose monitoring sensors. They greatly simplify blood sugar management, reduce the number of painful finger pricks, and allow dangerous changes to be detected in time.
In addition to Bohdan, there are two more children in the family, and their mother raises them on her own. She is unable to work, as Bohdan requires constant care and monitoring.
Bohdan used to do boxing, but due to frequent blood sugar drops he was forced to stop training. With a sensor, he will be able to return to sport and school, as his condition will continue to be monitored regardless of how far he is from his mother.
Let's help Bohdan live actively and safely! Every contribution is a chance for an ordinary childhood.
