Now Ania is a first-grader; she happily goes to school with the other children, where she has friends and a favorite teacher who teaches her all sorts of interesting things: reading, writing, and counting. Ania also loves her English classes and happily attends an art club. That’s how things are now. But two years ago, it seemed like the girl would never have a chance to live a normal life.
Two years ago, little Ania was diagnosed with "type 1 diabetes". It sounded like a death sentence. Her mom was devastated, feeling completely hopeless. In the endocrinology department of the city children’s hospital, the girl and her mom went through their first diabetes training, learning to measure blood sugar with a glucometer and administer insulin. Little by little, in small steps, the little girl’s health began to improve. But they had to prick her fingers very often. It hurts not only the child but also the mom. And insulin injections… who likes them? They did them through tears, through fear, but they did them because there was no other way. Together, they learned to give injections, wait the required time, weigh, and count every food item. It’s a daily routine that only truly brave and courageous children can endure.
In the very first year after the diagnosis, her mother turned to philanthropists for help. Thanks to their support, Ania was able to attend preschool because she gained access to a remote glucose monitoring system. This made daily management much easier and brought greater peace of mind. Caring people reached out to help at the most difficult moment. Thanks to this support, Ania’s life has truly become easier: fewer painful finger pricks, fewer tears, more peaceful nights, and significantly less fear of dangerous drops in blood sugar.
Now, her mother is reaching out to us again for help in providing Ania with sensors. This is life-changing help. Please help change this little girl’s life for the better!
