Markusyk was the first and incredibly long awaited child in his family. His parents waited for him, dreamed about him, imagined their first embrace, his first smile, his first steps. But in a single moment, their joyful anticipation turned into fear for their son’s life. Due to a difficult birth, Mark suffered severe asphyxia, seizures, and cephalohematomas. Instead of spending his first weeks in the warmth of his home, the baby spent almost the entire first month of his life in the hospital. When Mark was finally able to come home, his family knew that a long and difficult journey lay ahead. From the second month of his life, a constant fight for his future began, massages, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and almost continuous rehabilitation.

At the age of one, Mark was diagnosed with Level III cerebral palsy and active tetraparesis. Today, Mark is only one year and three months old. At this age, children usually take their first unsteady steps, reach for their mothers, explore the world, and try to say their first words. Mark desperately wants to discover the world too, but his body does not yet allow him to do the things that come naturally to other children. He still cannot sit up independently, stand on his feet, or walk. He can only crawl on his belly and does not speak yet. Behind every tiny movement Mark makes are countless therapy sessions, enormous effort, exhaustion, and the hard work of a little boy who, from the very first days of his life, has had to fight for things that are simply a natural part of childhood for others.

Despite everything he has endured, Markusyk is an amazingly cheerful and bright little boy. He loves being around people and is curious about everything happening around him. He enjoys listening to music so much that he even has his own speaker, loves watching cats and dogs, and is fascinated by cars and buses. He wants to see, hear, explore, and discover this enormous world. More than anything, his mother dreams of the day when she will see her son sit up on his own, stand on his little feet, take his first step, and say his first word. To make this possible, Mark needs to continue rehabilitation, because precious time cannot be lost.

His mother is doing everything she can to give her son a chance at a fulfilling life, but it is incredibly difficult for the family to carry this burden alone. Today, little Mark needs our help. Please support this fundraiser, every contribution can become part of his next achievement, another movement, another small step forward. Markusyk is only beginning his life. Let us do everything we can to fill it with as much childhood laughter, new abilities, independence, and victories as possible. Let us give this smiling little boy the chance to one day take those precious first steps his mother is waiting for with all her heart.
