Milanka is growing up to be smart and curious; she loves playing with dolls, building with construction sets, riding her scooter, and coloring. However, before every walk, game, or activity, her parents first check not her mood but her blood glucose level, because the little girl has type 1 diabetes.

Little Milanka was diagnosed at age 1. The day after her birthday, she ended up in the hospital.

It was a double blow for the family, since their older daughter also has type 1 diabetes. She was diagnosed when she was a year and a half old. Coming to terms with this was difficult – almost impossible. Once again, there were endless finger pricks, and the inability to calculate the amount of carbohydrates consumed in order to administer the correct dose of insulin. Everything was further complicated by the fact that Milanka was highly sensitive to insulin, so it had to be diluted with saline solution in specific proportions every time.

The family’s life turned into a constant cycle of measuring blood glucose, weighing food, calculating carbohydrates, and administering insulin for two small children.

Milanka is now 2.5 years old. Her little fingers can no longer withstand hourly blood sugar checks with a glucometer. But frequent checks are necessary because Milanka is prone to episodes of hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia, which she doesn’t feel and can’t explain. Her blood sugar often fluctuates due to physical activity, sleep, or mood swings, and her condition is impossible to predict.

That’s why continuous glucose monitoring is this little girl’s most reliable ally. It helps prevent critical episodes and complications, allowing her to focus on enjoying her childhood rather than on her illness.

Every donation will help ensure continuous glucose monitoring, which will protect Milanka’s health and life every day. Support our fundraiser for Milanka and be a part of ensuring she has a safe childhood.
