For Viktoriia from the settlement of Obukhivka, every new word or skill is a true miracle. She delights her loved ones with her achievements and proves that perseverance and regular rehabilitation bring results.
Vika was born by cesarean section and experienced oxygen deprivation. Later examinations revealed hydrocephalic syndrome, and an MRI showed the consequences of a stroke suffered during birth. These conditions caused developmental delays and severe speech impairments.
At the age of one and a half, Viktoriia’s condition worsened: she stopped responding when addressed, avoided eye contact, and often cried for no apparent reason. This was followed by numerous examinations, consultations with specialists, and ongoing rehabilitation courses.
Later, doctors identified specific mental developmental features and a number of metabolic disorders. The family had to completely revise their daughter’s diet, eliminating gluten, sugar, and dairy products. These changes had a positive effect on her well-being and development.
Thanks to regular work with a psychologist, speech therapist, and special education teacher, Vika has become calmer and more attentive. She helps her mother with household chores, understands spoken language better, follows requests, and uses individual words to communicate. This year, Viktoriia advanced to the 5th grade.
She enjoys drawing, sculpting, embroidery, and making beaded jewelry together with her younger sister, Lera. Her parents do everything possible to help their daughter become more independent and self-confident. Every new skill she acquires is a great joy for the family. Sessions with the specialists at the St. John's Center help her achieve new successes.
In July, Vika needs to undergo another rehabilitation course at the St. John's Center, where she will continue working with a psychologist and speech therapist. This will help her consolidate the progress she has already made and take the next steps in her development. Please support Viktoriia with a donation of any amount!
