Thanks to the charitable support of the mobile operator Vodafone Ukraine, we are implementing a project to purchase medical equipment for the "Clinical Perinatal Center of the Blessed Virgin Mary", a municipal non-profit enterprise of the Sumy City Council. As part of the project, the hospital will receive a phototherapy lamp, suction devices, a syringe infusion pump, and a pulse oximeter to help newborns who require intensive care from the very first minutes of life.
The Sumy Perinatal Center continues to operate under conditions of constant danger and proximity to the frontline. Despite the anxiety, shelling, and exhaustion, doctors deliver babies every day, care for premature infants, and fight to save the lives of their youngest patients.
The Neonatal Intensive Care, Post-Intensive Care, and Postnatal Care Unit treats children who require special medical attention. These include premature babies, infants with respiratory disorders, jaundice, unstable conditions, low birth weight, or other complications during the first days of life.
For these children, every minute counts. Doctors must quickly detect changes in a child’s condition, monitor blood oxygen levels, safely administer infusion therapy, support breathing, clear the airways, and treat conditions that could be life-threatening for a newborn.
That is why the team at the perinatal center has asked for help in purchasing the equipment needed every day to save and stabilize these tiny patients.
A phototherapy lamp helps treat neonatal jaundice. This is a common condition in the first days of life, but without timely treatment, high bilirubin levels can be dangerous for the baby’s brain. Phototherapy helps lower these levels painlessly and safely.
Suction devices are needed to clear the airways of newborns. When a baby cannot breathe effectively on its own or has mucus, fluid, or other secretions, a suction device helps doctors quickly clear the airways and support the baby’s breathing. In the neonatal intensive care unit, this equipment can be essential at the most critical moments.
A syringe infusion pump allows for the administration of medications and solutions with very high precision. This is especially important for premature and critically ill infants, as their bodies are extremely sensitive and medication doses must be as precise and safe as possible.
A pulse oximeter helps continuously monitor the baby’s blood oxygen levels and heart rate. For newborns in critical condition, these metrics are vital. They allow doctors to detect any deterioration in a timely manner and respond quickly.
For doctors, this is more than just technology. It’s an opportunity to help a child faster, stabilize their condition, support their breathing, provide necessary treatment, and give them a chance at a healthy future, even during wartime.
Thanks to Vodafone Ukraine’s ongoing support, we are able to carry out such important projects and help hospitals that save the lives of our youngest patients every day. We thank Vodafone Ukraine for its compassion, consistent support, and contribution to the lives of children who need help from the very first moments of their lives.
