Kristina already sometimes looks into the eyes, smiles, and plays with her younger brother. The girl has autism, but every look and every smile is a small step toward the world.
Kristina was born at 36 weeks of pregnancy and experienced hypoxia. Until the age of one and a half, she developed like an ordinary child: she responded to her loved ones, said her first words, and showed interest in the world. Later, a sharp regression occurred: the girl stopped speaking, making eye contact, and lost pointing gestures and understanding of addressed speech.
At that time, the family was living in Germany, fleeing the war. The mother and father tried for a long time to understand what was happening to their daughter. The results of EEG and MRI examinations showed damage to the frontal lobes of the brain, which are responsible for speech.
Then the family decided to return to Ukraine to take care of Kristina’s health.
She has undergone numerous consultations and examinations. She was diagnosed with childhood autism, expressive speech disorder, and mild cognitive impairment.
Kristina is 4 years old, she lives in Pidhorodne, Dnipropetrovsk region. The girl loves swimming in bodies of water and riding swings and slides.
Now she works with an ABA therapist, a speech therapist-defectologist, and attends sensory integration sessions. She likes to learn, and new skills are gradually emerging. She has started to sometimes look into the eyes, smile, and repeat words and phrases, not yet understanding their meaning. And this is an important step forward.
There are three children in the family: fourteen-year-old Platon, Kristina, and two-year-old Nikos. Only the father works - he is a driver, so paying for numerous sessions is becoming increasingly difficult.
Kristina has already completed an expensive course of ABA therapy, and the next one will begin on April 1. In addition, she needs rehabilitation at the St. John's Center There she will undergo massage and sessions aimed at developing speech, balance, and fine motor skills.
Funds must be raised to pay for the rehabilitation program. Every hryvnia you give is a chance for Kristina to better understand the world and one day say the most important words “mom” and “dad.” Let’s help Kristina together!
