Veronika is a friendly and sociable girl. She loves drawing, sculpting with clay and modeling clay, making crafts, creating rag dolls, and beaded brooches. She attends a theatre club and loves performing on stage, and enjoys riding her bike. She has a beloved cat named Marsel, whom she rescued from the street. But unfortunately, illness burst into what seemed like such a bright and cheerful life.
Recently Veronika began showing symptoms such as thirst, weakness, and weight loss. The girl was admitted to hospital, directly to intensive care, with a high blood sugar level and the highest level of acetone. After examination and treatment in hospital, her condition stabilized. But the diagnosis her family heard sounded like a verdict – type 1 diabetes. Veronichka was immediately prescribed insulin.
From that moment on, Veronika's life has meant constant blood sugar monitoring, insulin, worry, and a daily fight for stable health. At first it was very difficult emotionally, but Veronika holds up bravely and is learning to live with this illness without losing her smile.
Her parents believe the illness may have developed as a result of stress: Veronichka's home and that of her loved ones was nearly destroyed during the shelling of the city of Lysychansk, and the city itself was under occupation.
The girl tries to keep her blood sugar within normal range, but it does not always work out. For better and continuous glucose monitoring, sensors and a pump are needed. They will allow Veronika and her family to see her blood sugar level continuously on a phone screen and avoid 10–15 finger pricks per day. Unfortunately, due to limited finances, the family is unable to manage on their own and provide the girl with continuous monitoring.
Your help is not simply a contribution toward purchasing monitoring sensors. It is support, hope, and a chance for Veronika to keep moving forward. Let's give her the chance to grow, explore, dream, and simply be a happy child!
